Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, staff should be able to:

  • Describe responsive behaviours and evidence-based recommendations to support a person living with dementia who is experiencing a responsive behaviour.
  • Utilise Dementia Training Australia’s (DTA) resources that may assist with minimising the use of antipsychotic medications for responsive behaviours.
  • Identify beneficial and detrimental effects associated with antipsychotic medications when used for responsive behaviours.
  • Provide appropriate support for a person living with dementia experiencing a responsive behaviour.
  • Contribute to the review and monitoring process once a person is commenced on antipsychotic medications.
